Tips On How To Make Jello Shots

Jello Shots have become very popular in the last 10 years amongst the college elite and midnight marauders of every major metropolis. If you're looking for a quick, sweet, and creative way to get a crowd of party poopers flipped upside down, busting out a tray full of Jello Shots will do the trick every time! So How Do You Make Jello Shots?

I'm glad you asked! Making Jello Shots is easy, a little sticky, and fun! Before you get started, I want you to open up the bottle of Vodka you bought for the Jello Shots, grab a shot glass (or multiple if you have friends over) and take a shot. You have to have Vodka in your system before making Jello Shots, it's a must! Here are the ingredients needed for your basic Vodka Jello Shot:
  • 16 ounces (2 cups) of boiling water
  • 6 oz. package of flavored gelatin (Jello) I prefer cherry!
  • 6 ounces (3/4 cup) of cold water
  • 10 ounces (1 1/4 cup) of Vodka
*Quick Tip* Chill your alcohol for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator adding your mixture!
  1. Bring water to a boil, then remove from heat.
  2. Stir the boiling water and gelatin powder in a medium sized bowl until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Stir in the Vodka and cold water
  4. Pour the wonderful mixture into your favorite shot glasses or some shot-size plastic cups (1 to 2 oz. size)
  5. Place shots on a funky looking tray, and stick them in the refrigerator for at least 2 to 4 hours. Do not stick them in the freezer! Keep them in the fridge until your ready to start sucking them back.
  6. This recipe makes approximately 40 1 oz. shots (20 2 oz. shots for those of you not good at math!)
*Quick Tip* Instead of standard shot glasses, I prefer paper or plastic Jello Shot cups. They are disposable, and much easier to squeeze all the Jello goodness out! Here are a few more tips on how to make Jello Shots kick some serious ass:
  • Depending on what proof of alcohol you are using, adjust the proportions of alcohol to cold water. This will make sure your Jello Shots set correctly:
  • 13 ounces of 30-50 (~20%) proof alcohol to 3 ounces cold water
  • 10 ounces 80-100 (~45%) proof alcohol to 6 ounces cold water (U.S. standard)
  • 6 ounces 150-200 proof alcohol to 10 ounces cold water
  • When serving large parties of people use more water and less alcohol, or less water and more alcohol. This ultimately depends on whether you are trying to control intoxication or promote it! You get what I mean though.
Now there are Tons and Tons of free Jello Shots Recipes, and I will be posting individual recipes as the days pass, but to get your creative juices going here are a handful of yummy combinations that will keep your guests talking about them for weeks!
